A nourishing Sunday at home!

If you are anything like me, you absolutely love to spend a day at home without having to leave the house for anything. In fact, my favorite days are days that feel good to my entire nervous system. Slow days that are not governed by deadlines and have to’s. These are usually the days that I’m most productive. In know, this sounds like a contradiction but the truth is that the less pressure I feel to get things done, the better my brain works and the less likely I am going into freeze mode due to overwhelm.

Spring Sunday mornings

Though it’s already May, we haven’t experienced much Spring wheather here lately. It has been unusually wet and the Sun seems to be shy around us. But! We have light! In comparison to the long Autumn and Winter months, we now have plenty of light. So one of my favorite things to do, is to start the day outside. I let the dogs out in the garden and have my cup of morning coffee outside. I watch and listen to the garden bursting with life while holding a warm cup of coffee in my hands. It feels so soothing and nourishing. I cannot tell you how happy this makes my brain! It allows me to feel grounded and connected, first thing in the morning. This early morning light exposure also resets our circadian rhythm (24 hour cycle) and allows us to sleep better at night too.

Croissants for breakfast

In my mind, Sundays equals croissants! Slow and soft mornings and a house that smells like croissants and fresh coffee. And on rainy days, we’ll have our coffee in bed. I always keep a package of frozen croissants in the freezer, it only takes a few minutes in the oven and they are deliciously crispy. Call me crazy, but I think croissants are not just delicious, they are also aesthetically pleasing.

Long walks with the pups

More nourishment and ease on a Sunday morning when taking the Chic Dogs out on a long stroll. Living in a more rural area gifts us with an apparent way of experiencing the shift in seasons. At the moment everything looks so green and lush and the air smells sweet with promise. I love this time of year, and the Chic Dogs do too.

And then, the cherry on top, a restorative nap!

Fresh sheets! Yes, please!

Tell me, what feels more delicious than getting in a freshly made bed with soft sheets that smell as sweet as Spring air?! Provided that you make the bed immediately and don’t wait until the last minute to put fresh sheets on it. Going upstairs at night, feeling exhausted to then realize that you still have to make the bed. Ahhhhhhhh madness! We’ve all been there right?

I also love to put tea roses in a small vase on my nightstand as I change the sheets. A small luxury that elevates my mornings instantly. Though we haven’t had much of Spring weather yet, the roses in my garden started blooming very early this year and I already have small vases with roses all around the house.

In the garden

Spring is a time for gardeners to get busy with pottering, planting and tidying up our beloved gardens. So much to do in the garden this time of year. From sowing flowers and vegetables to planting and editing the borders. It makes my heart skip a beat every time I think about what else to sow or buy to make my garden even more beautiful than the year before. To me, my garden is my most treasured work of art. Every time I get the chance to work in the garden, I’m there. Even after a long day of teaching, nothing soothes me more than connecting with the earth and my garden. But on Sundays, especially Sundays during Spring, I feel like gardening is mandatory. Besides, the calories of that aesthetically pleasing croissant I had for breakfast, needs to be put to use. Am I right?!

A warm bath

No better way to end a day of gardening than with a warm and soothing bath! Not ‘just’ a bath, one with candles all around the tub, a deeply hydrating facial mask from Caudalie (my absolute favorite!) on my face and soothing piano music playing in the background.

I usually use the Sakura bath foam from Rituals. It has a delicate and soothing scent that feels truly nourishing and calming to the senses. Afterwards I take my time to nourish my skin on my entire body with oil from Nuxe with the most delicious néroli scent.

As I don’t plan on leaving the house, I put on soft and comfy homewear and go to bed early with a cup of chamomile tea and a good book.

That to me, is a nourishing Sunday at home.

I hope this blogpost inspired you to have more intentional slow Sundays.

Love,

Wendy
