Note to Self

Dear readers,

I’m starting a brand new series on the blog and I’m calling it ‘Note to Self’.

These are words of comfort, encouragement  and inspiration to help remind you of certain things while navigating this world and this human experience. I write these words to remind myself of things that I so easily forget in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I hope these words will help you to stay on track while you create a more meaningful and intentional life for yourself.

Sometimes a word, a sentence, a poem… can jolt us back to life and make us recalibrate. Other times it can remind us that we are not alone in our struggles.

It’s all beautiful and magical, even in the chaos of this thing called life. So let’s make sure we don’t forget. Let’s make sure that we learn how to refocus our lens, again and again.

Here’s the first one of the series. I wrote it almost a year ago in my journal to remind myself that it is okay to feel sadness and that I have the capacity to hold space for all my emotions and so do you.

When you feel sadness for no reason at all or for all the reasons at once,

I wish you softness.

I wish you open doors and soft blankets.

I wish you kindness and a stranger’s smile.

When you feel like the weight of your sadness slows you down,

I wish you the courage to rest.

Deeply rest.

In a way that reminds your body how to breathe again.

Do not listen to the voice in the back of your head, telling you to do more, be more.

Do not distract yourself.

Instead, sit with it.

Hold space and listen to the whispers of your heart.

The world won’t stop turning because you step back and slow down.

In fact, the world will heal just a little bit more if you learn how to tend to your heart.

Nourished hearts rarely feel the need to destruct their environments.

Deep breaths my darling.

You got this.

Love,

Wendy
